EPIC Service Project: Habitat for Humanity

Join EPIC for a volunteer day at Habitat for Humanity!  This event is open to both members and non-members of EPIC, so be sure to invite your friends and/or coworkers to join us as we give back to this amazing organization!

Before the Big Day

1. Safety: MASKS are no longer required due to COVID-19 City of Columbia ordinance but are still highly encouraged for any unvaccinated volunteers. Please do not volunteer if you have any symptoms, or have not been released to return to work after a positive test. Tools and safety equipment will be provided for all volunteers. All volunteers should watch the safety video prior to working on a Habitat job site.  https://youtu.be/CsU39u2aDPg

2. Food and Water: Water will be available.  Feel free to bring a water bottle to refill regularly to reduce plastic waste. We do have a scheduled lunch break from 12:00-12:30pm for staff and all day volunteers. Feel free to bring your lunch or leave site to pick something up.

3. Clothing: Please wear closed toed shoes and clothes you do not mind getting dirty. Your volunteer activities may include painting. This is a construction site and you should dress for the current weather

4. Parking: Please make sure you are not parked in front of any large machinery or fire hydrants. The gravel circle at the end of the road is for turning around. Please park on the side of the road.

5. Appreciation: Know that the work you are doing is changing the lives of members of your community. You may think “I’m only painting.” Or “I’m only digging in a yard” but to the family that will be moving into the very first home that is theirs, you made the bedroom that keeps them safe feel like HOME with a paint color they love and you are making a safe place for their children to play in their very own back yard. You are making a BIG a difference. Thank You!
